When people hear “residency,” they often think of medical residencies—full-time, intensive programs for recent graduates. This model works for those already committed to church planting but isn’t creating the pipeline of future church planters needed to meet the ever-growing need for new churches.
Multiply Project takes a different approach. It’s not a residency in the traditional sense but a flexible, personal development process. It’s for anyone feeling called to plant churches, regardless of their educational or occupational background. And it’s designed to fit alongside their existing commitments.
Flexible and Accessible
Traditional residencies are often exclusive—targeting recent graduates with the ability to commit full-time. Multiply Project, on the other hand, is open to a broader range of people. It invites future church planters to grow in their gifts while continuing in their current roles. Participants can be seasoned pastors or professionals working outside of ministry, and they can develop as leaders without having to leave their jobs or communities.
Training for the Long Haul
Think of Multiply Project as training for a triathlon. You don’t quit your job and train all day; you integrate training into your life. Similarly, Multiply Project participants continue their ministry or work while building their leadership skills over time. This ongoing, sustainable approach ensures church planters grow spiritually and practically without stepping away from their responsibilities.
Developing Leaders Holistically
Unlike residencies that focus narrowly on specific skills, Multiply Project develops the whole person—spiritually, relationally, and practically. Participants grow in four key areas:
Calling: A clear sense that church planting is a God-given mission.
Character: A Christlike life that draws others to the gospel.
Competency: The ability to make disciples who multiply.
Capacity: Emotional, spiritual, and relational health to lead effectively.
This holistic growth happens in real time, within the context of their current ministry. Leaders can immediately apply what they’re learning while continuing their work.
Developing Planters Where They Are
Unlike traditional residencies that pull leaders into new settings, Multiply Project works with people where they are. Churches and networks can identify potential planters already serving in their congregation and help them grow without uprooting their lives. This flexible model opens doors for a broader range of potential planters—those who may not have had the opportunity to enter a formal residency program
Want to see more church planters emerge from your congregation? Multiply Project offers a flexible development process to help leaders grow right where they are, equipping them for church planting while they continue serving in your church. The leaders needed to plant more churches are already there—they just need to be called, equipped, and sent.
